My Father's Kitchen Cabinet
16 x 13 x 13" slab-built box with intact and broken bone china plates of variable sizes.
The sound of shattering dishes is one that haunts my childhood. It was an expression of anger and an act of physical intimidation that turned the kitchen into a dangerous environment. The sound of these dishes breaking is burned into my memory, though the actual appearance of my father’s dinnerware eluded me for several days. The plates are broken, so too is their home sagged and cracked, buckling under the pressure of the kiln.
