Large Vase
17 x 8 x 8" Wheel-thrown, altered, and raku fired.
This vase is an investigation into what makes objects beautiful. Oftentimes, beauty is thought of as being pure and perfect. I wanted to push against this idea and create an object of imperfect beauty–an object that may have once approached the idea of perfection, but was molded into something imperfect and unpredictable by my hands and by the kiln. It is an object that almost appears to be damaged yet stands tall and demands attention and awe, not despite its damage and imperfection but because of it.
